Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008

Today, Tom drove Bonnie and I back to Worcester. It rained!

Bonnie did the navigation until we got to Worcester. Then, Tom asked me which turn and then missed the turn. Thus, I had to guide the three of us around Worcester. I was thankful that I knew Worcester enough to find my way "home."

In the evening, we went out to dinner with David and Barbara at The Three Pears.

Seeing the Babylon Exhibit and Josh

This morning, Tom, Bonnie and I went to the British Museum to see the Babylon Exhibit. I had seen it in Germany last summer and now it is in London. I am delighted to say that the British did not include all the unnecessary porn that the Germans seemed compelled to include! It was worth seeing!

Then we went to Trafalgar Square and met Josh for lunch at St. Martin in the Fields. A nice lunch can be purchased in the Crypt.

Here is Tom and and AGENT 923104 of the English Intelligence Services! :-) If you do not understand this identification, I guess you were not at K's birthday party!

Back to the British Library...

Thursday morning I headed back to the British Library to use my Reader's Card.

I spent several hours examining a book of science experiments from 1634 - one which Newton used and copied. Most interesting. OSHA would NEVER ALLOW young students to play with gunpowder as described in the book!

As I left for the day, I snapped this photo of "THE LAST WORD" coffee shop! What a proper name for the coffee shop!

History of Site of Westminster Conference

On Wednesday, December 10, Tom, Bonnie and I went back to what is called the American Church in London for the second half of the Westminster Conference. Here I am in front of the building that was built in 1959.

It was on this very site that George Whitefield preached to thousands in London. He also preached to thousands in the field across from Fagggs Manor Presbyterian Church (Manor Presbyterian Chruch) in Pennsylvania in the 18th century.

It is on this site that Augustus Montague Toplady is buried. He wrote many hymns but his most famous is probably "Rock of Ages Cleft for Me."

In addition, it was on this site that Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones was ordained.

Westminster Conference, London

Today, Tom, Bonnie, Andrew and I attended the the first day of the Westminster Conference.

Here you see Tom and Bonnie and Andrew listening to the speaker. I leave it to you to decide if they are in agreement or disagreement with what he is saying at that moment!

Today: British Library and a Reader's Card

This morning I took the bus to the British Library. The very interesting building in the background is St. Pancreas Station

Here is the very modern and interesting British Library!

And, here is the highly prized Reader's Card! Now I may use the library!

By the way, Tom arrived safely this morning and he and Bonnie came over to the hotel from Andrew's house this evening. It was GREAT to see them both! He was very tired and they were only here briefly so I did not get a photo.

Sunday, Dec. 7, in London with Bonnie

Sunday morning, Bonnie and I worshipped at the American Church in London. This is where the Westminster Conference will be held this week.

After lunch, we went over to Manchester Square.

George, Roberta and Rosaleen had highly recommended that we see the Wallace Collection at Hertford House.

We saw the famous painting of the Laughing Cavalier and ...

a painting by Rembrandt of his own son. The collection is FANTASTIC! Thanks Roberta, George and Rosaleen for the recommendation!
