My WONDERFUL B&B in Cambridge...

Hi Nigel and Jane! I admit it! I took these photos from your web site -- but they do show the outside and my room almost perfectly -- my bedspread and towels are different colors! This MUST BE the most perfect B&B in Cambridge. First of all, the hosts, Nigel and Jane are just lovely and Nigel drove me to church this morning and offered to drive me tonight. (A family from the church has offered to pick me up, so I will go with them to save Nigel the drive.) When was the last time you ever heard of the owners of a B&B offer to drive their guest to church? The breakfast was huge and so fresh and delicious -- yes, it meets the Pearson standard! The room is spotless and as you look at the top picture, you will see the window to my room in on the right hand side of the lower level beyond the door. In the pictures below, you will see the room. The WiFi is very, very good here - something I really appreciate.

This Lord's Day in Cambridge...

This morning I worshipped at Cambridge Presbyterian Church. In the top picture, Pastor Ian Hamilton is the gentleman with coat and tie and standing in the center. He preached a wonderful sermon on Acts 15:22-41. The whole sermon was GREAT! Ian discussed the fact that the leaders, Paul and Barnabas were brethren who were writing to brethren. They were brothers first who also were leaders -- NOT-- leaders who were brothers. He talked about how Godly leadership was like that of Christ who was a servant leader. During his prayer of "Intercession for the church and for the world," he prayed very movingly for Obama (something which I have been trying to do but with very GREAT difficulty. Is my disappointment over the recent election showing?) He prayed for the Queen and her government and I was struck by how fervently he prayed for those in authority -- and that was BEFORE the sermon!

Then the church had a fellowship lunch after and I stayed and met some folk and the man I was most interested in was an American who has been in the US military for a number of years, who is leaving the military in December and then going to teach at the Classical School of the Medes in northern Iraq in January! -- Dory, are you reading this? I could not believe my ears! Here I have been for the past several days researching classical education and it JUST SO HAPPENED -- IN GOD'S PROVIDENCE -- WELL, YOU GET THE IDEA! Paul is pictured below sharing what he wants to do in Iraq at the lunch after church.

In today's economy...

Most days I read, among other things, "Faith's Checkbook" by Charles Haddon Spurgeon. Yesterday, this was the reading and I thought that it was so appropriate to keep in mind with today's economic troubles. Be sure to read the last sentence!

Limitless Riches

My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

Paul's God is our God and will supply all our need. Paul felt sure of this in reference to the Philippians, and we feel sure of it as to ourselves. God will do it, for it is like Him: He loves us, He delights to bless us, and it will glorify Him to do so. His pity, His power, His love, His faithfulness, all work together that we be not famished.

What a measure doth the Lord go by: "According to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." The riches of His grace are large, but what shall we say of the riches of His glory? His "riches of glory by Christ Jesus"-who shall form an estimate of this? According to this immeasurable measure will God fill up the immense abyss of our necessities. He makes the Lord Jesus the receptacle and the channel of His fullness, and then He imparts to us His wealth of love in its highest form. Hallelujah!

The writer knows what it is to be tried in the work of the Lord. Fidelity has been recompensed with anger, and liberal givers have stopped their subscriptions; but he whom they sought to oppress has not been one penny the ~ nay, rather he has been the richer; for this promise has been true, "My God shall supply all your need." God's supplies are surer than any bank.

Leaving Grantham...

Before I left Grantham by train for Cambridge, I went to the market - which has taken place in Grantham every Saturday since the 11th century. I took a picture of the wonderful carrots that are available in England for Iain. I then snapped a photo of my new friends in Grantham. Sam is in the middle and Nita is on the left side and she is the wife of Malcolm, who is standing on the right. There are some very WONDERFUL people in Grantham!

The King's Room..

The King's Room at the Angel and Royal has a great deal of history attached to it. After visits to the hotel by King John in 1213 and Edward III and his queen in the 14th century, King Richard III held court in the room pictured above in 1483. Charles I made use of the room in 1633 and 1634. Oliver Cromwell also stayed at the hotel. The King's Room is very much as it would have appeared to the kings of long ago. By the way, the food was excellent.

Walking home from the library...

When I walked home from the library this afternoon on the very streets which Sir Isaac Newton would have walked as a boy, I snapped a photo of my 800-year-old hotel, the Angel and Royal - an excellent hotel, by the way - and I also took a picture of the street to the side of the hotel. Note the half-timbered building which is now the Blue Pig Pub. The building which contains the pub would have been standing during Newton's day and also standing was St. Wulfram's church, the tower in the background, where Newton would have worshipped while in Grantham.

Finding TREASURE!

What an AWESOME morning I had finding treasure with Sam! And then, I spent the afternoon in the town library and that was a place I would not have thought to look until Sam urged me to do so. Again -- an AWESOME afternoon! I was so excited about what I was finding that I wanted to shout it from the table where I was reading -- BUT IT WAS A LIBRARY -- SO I REFRAINED FROM SHOUTING -- and inside my heart, I thanked God for Sam, for this morning and for Sam's wonderful advice.
